The Mountain Film Festival is Back

Dear Friends of Mountain Film,

Since 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic has changed everyone’s life in some way or other. All areas were affected: education and work, leisure and cultural life as well as how we experience nature. As we all know, necessity is the mother of invention, and solutions were found to new problems. The magic word was “online”, new spaces opened up in the digital world. Film festivals availed of this opportunity, made films watchable on personal computers, tablets and smartphones, meaning their events could take place despite lockdowns. And so, each individual attended such a festival on their own, yet a shared cinematic experience did not take place, when what is most needed are in fact personal encounters, communal movie enjoyment, the emotions generated by the images and stories, the exchange of ideas afterwards – in short everything that defines a festival.

This is why, in Tegernsee, we are sticking to the tried-and-tested “analogue” festival format – because we are convinced that it best suits our very special cinematic genre. This decision is not about rejecting new paths, but about following them for the express purpose of bringing our mountain film community together in Tegernsee. By now, we have succeeded in doing this 18 times, and our team of many volunteers is already enthusiastically preparing for a reunion at the 19th Mountain Film Festival. Come join the celebration and atmospheric gathering at Lake Tegernsee, where around 80 films from all over the world will once again display the wide spectrum of modern mountain film.
