We’ve all been that kid in the back of their parents’ car, wishing dearly to be somewhere completely different. Dreams grow wings and during a drive through the snow-laden cities of British Columbia they actually come to life: Isn’t that Tom Wallisch beside the car, one of the world’s best free skiers, jumping across rooftops and sliding down railings?
During this evening, presenter Michael Pause hosts special guests.
Please note: due to heightened interest, the German Alpine Club programme is simultaneously screened in identical sequence in the Sporthalle venue.

Ama Dablam – Drama am heiligen Berg (Ama Dablam - Drama at the Holy Mountain)
For locals, Nepalese Mt. Ama Dablam (6,814 m / 22,356 ft) is a holy mountain, for many others at least the world’s most beautiful. In 1978 Peter Hillary together with three friends hopes to open its west face, but the mountaineers are hit by an ice avalanche. Reinhold Messner and Oswald Oelz happen to be climbing on the same mountain on a different route. They terminate their tour immediately and try to achieve the impossible: to save the New Zealanders. A race against time ensues …
In 2017 Reinhold Messner received the Great Prize of the City of Tegernsee.

The Dawn Wall

The Dawn Wall
In January 2015 climbers Tommy Caldwell and Kevin Jorgeson hope to complete the Yosemite Valley’s Dawn Wall. The ascent takes 19 days in total, during which they have to rely entirely on themselves on the rock face. Wunderwelt Schweiz – Die Jura-Region (Swiss Bliss - The Jura Region)

Wunderwelt Schweiz – Die Jura-Region (Swiss Bliss - The Jura Region)
The Jura Mountains are the Alps’ smaller brother. They are a multifaceted low mountain range extending along the French-Swiss border, relatively unknown, characterised by untouched nature. From springtime in the colourfully blooming Ajoie Region, Northern Switzerland’s orchard, to summer in the idyllic Vallée de Joux and freezing cold winters in the coldest part of Switzerland – the year in the Jura holds many surprises in a region which is both rough and lovely.
Trembling Mountain

Trembling Mountain
The Langtang Valley in Nepal is much loved by trekkers and was hit by the devastating earthquake of 2015 with full force. An avalanche of ice, rock and mud poured down its hillsides. Hundreds of people died, whole villages were destroyed and the survivors evacuated to Kathmandu. When they return, they search for the remains of their former lives: for livestock, the foundations of their houses – and for the bodies of their buried relatives.

Eigentlich wollten wir nur bergsteigen… (We Just Meant to Climb Mountains...)
Help that facilitates self-help is the key to progress through individual initiatives in countries we call underdeveloped. A cooperation between the Technical Universities of Munich and of Kathmandu strikes out on a path which one would not have expected in this context. The young team does not let unexpected difficulties deter it from creating solutions for access to education, information and easier living conditions in even remote regions of Nepal. Help from outside is only the first step – from then on, self-help is called for!
