Only they see those lines on sheer rock, only in their heads do certain traces exist. Swiss mountaineers Stephan Siegrist and Thomas Huber have often demonstrated their intuitive talents. In 2017 they achieve another masterpiece, together with Julian Zanker, at the pristine granite peak of Cerro Kishtwar, succeeding with a first ascent of its icy big wall. They call the route “Har-Har-Mahadev”, which translates roughly through Bavarian as “Pull yourself together!”.

Thomas Huber screens his film about this daring venture for the first time at the Tegernsee Mountain Film Festival.

They still exist in South Tyrol: remote mountain farms without drivable access, far from the villages. Ewald Thaler consciously opted for this kind of life, same as Siegfried and Florian Lanthaler. From spring to late autumn they live in isolation at 1,700 m (5,577 ft) of altitude, while their wife and mother manages the farmstead in the valley below. Up there she finds it too lonely. However, those who do go up find quiet and strength and the determination to keep going, with life and with the farm.

Here, alongside the Himalaya’s main ridge, the formerly separate continents of India and Asia slam together at full force. This immense collision shaped the Himalaya and the Brahmaputra river system. Numerous hidden high valleys present extremely challenging biospheres, even for well adapted plants and wildlife.
