Tegernsee International Mountain Film Festival

Press Release Bergzeit                                                          04/2017

15th Tegernsee International Mountain Film Festival, 18 – 22 October 2017

Celebrating Mountain Film with Bergzeit

In time for its 15th edition this October, the Tegernsee Mountain Film Festival pairs up with a strong partner who shares its passion for outdoor adventures and the mountains: the Upper Bavarian multichannel shop Bergzeit.

Tegernsee Mountain Film is looking forward to its upcoming anniversary and its new sponsoring concept; Bergzeit is looking forward to a new corporate building and streamlined structures. Max Hofbauer, the CEO of Bergzeit, one of Europe’s leading online retailers of outdoor and travel products, agrees wholeheartedly with the festival organizers that these circumstances are ideal conditions for a successful partnership.

Nobody could be more pleased than Tegernsee’s Mayor Johannes Hagn. The new partner started as a regional enterprise and therefore is an ideal match for the Mountain Film Festival, whose intimate atmosphere has always appealed to its visitors. Hofbauer shares this view: “For us, a cooperation with the Mountain Film Festival is perfect. It has strong local roots but is constantly gaining international significance,” Bergzeit’s CEO stated while signing the sponsoring contract inside the Bergzeit store in Gmund-Moosrain near Lake Tegernsee. “We share a passion for the mountains and are bound to profit from a long-term partnership,” states Mountain Film Festival Director Michael Pause. “Undoubtedly we will become excellent, mutually beneficial partners.” Bergzeit’s involvement will also be tangible during the conferring of prizes. The prize in the category Mountain Nature will be named after this new sponsor.

Bergzeit was founded in 1999 in Holzkirchen, four years prior to the very first Tegernsee Mountain Film Festival. In 2012 the Southern Tyrolian enterprise Sportler AG run by the Oberrauch family took over the rapidly expanding Bavarian company. On the Otterfing industrial park near Holzkirchen, Bergzeit’s new company headquarters are currently under construction. From here, thousands of packages will be sent out to more than half a million customers in 23 countries every day. 200 employees will occupy the company offices, another 50 will operate the logostic center.

Preparations for the 15th Mountain Film Festival are already under way. A relaunch of the festival’s online presence is planned for this summer, while the anniversary is also marked by a revised sponsoring concept. The new primary focus is on long-term partnerships – while maintaining relations to the many smaller regional partners who have been supporting the festival for many years. “We absolutely value these special partners", emphasizes Johannes Hagn. “However, our ambition to count among Europe’s best mountain film festivals means that we need to improve, for example on the screening equipment – and that requires funding. It would harm the festival to cut back in this area.”
