11th Tegernsee International Mountain Film Festival

‘It meant taking a great risk, but I’d certainly do it again.’

For Tegernsee’s Mayor Peter Janssen this Mountain Film Festival represented his final year at the head of its organisational team, as he will lay down his office next spring – and with it his responsibility for the festival.

What pleased you most over the course of the last few days?
They were splendid days and we were blessed with fantastic weather. Nature’s luminous autumn colours corresponded perfectly with our decorations in the screening venues. This of course thrills me especially on behalf of our far-travelled guests.

Looking back, how would you describe the Mountain Film Festival’s development?
From the perspective of someone who helped bring the Mountain Film Festival into existence eleven year ago, I would say today that it has matured into a fantastic event that ranks highly among all fans of the mountains and of mountain film.

If you had to make the decision again, would you once more opt to create this sort of event?
Why certainly! Although it meant taking a great risk at the time to enter the international stage of mountain film festivals with as small a town as Tegernsee. What ensured our path to success were founding father Otto Guggenbichler’s sound advice, our excellent cooperation with the German Alpine Club, with Bavarian Broadcasting and Tegernsee Valley Tourism as well as the efforts of Michael Pause – all this under the patronage of Heiner Geißler. What enabled us to actually walk that path were the over a hundred volunteers from the local video club and the various Alpine Club divisions who helped out every year.

What do you take out of these eleven years for yourself?
Foremost are the many heart-warming friendships with interesting and inspired people. These wonderful relationships will certainly last beyond my responsibility for the event.

What might the future hold in store for the Mountain Film Festival?
I am convinced that my successor will uphold this wonderful event. And I am also sure that the festival itself will evolve further. More than 1,500 films have been submitted so far. This proves the great innovative potency of this event – also for the future.

Will you stay involved?
Yes, it will be my pleasure to keep supporting the festival.
